Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center

Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to foster environmental awareness and promote respect and personal responsibility. Established in 1978, Eagle Bluff has grown into an established full service residential facility that welcomes 20,000 users a year.

Sustainability Through Learning Education and Outreach High Ropes course

By connecting individuals to their environment through education and outdoor experiences, it is Eagle Bluff's goal to help people become more aware of their impact on the environment and the differences each person can make. Eagle Bluff's own 95 acres are surrounded by 800 acres of state forest land, and the campus features soaring limestone bluffs, hardwood forests, and abundant wildlife, surrounded by the beautiful Root River valley.

Switched incandescent lights to CFLs & LED's. Installed Vending Misers. Installed automatic light switches in public restrooms. Upgraded furnaces and electric motors to more efficient models. Established a teaching garden which provides our dining hall with seasonal produce. Utilize composting system which is able to compost 75% of post-consumer waste.

Sustainable Energy Solar Power Panel

Completed a deep energy reduction retrofit (DERR)on the site's most energy inefficient building, the Eagle Bluff residence. A DERR's goals is to decrease the amount of energy and existing home comsumes from traditional sources. Eagle Bluff's DERR features: 12 inch thick walls (including insulation and siding) R Value = 50, passive solar heat gains in winter and solar shading in summer, advanced windows and doors, and a solar hot water system.

Overnight educational program for middle and high school students featuring a resource reduction challenge and engaging classes in energy and sustainability aligned with MN state academic standards and STEM primicples.

Partners in an on-line alternative energy curriculum with Winona State University.

Get FoodWISE!(Food Waste In Schools Elimination program) which eliminates cafeteria food waste through educational and sustainable ecological practices at Eagle Bluff and in a traditional school setting.
